Low Carbon Energy, Indonesia: KABIL, Riau Island Province

The Kabil project is a 11.4 MW gas fired power plant for provision of clean electricity to the local power grid on Batam, one of Indonesia’s 17,000 islands.  Electricity from the Kabil project emits 20% less carbon than other power plants in the region.

The project utilizes six units of 1.9 MW engines to provide much needed electricity using natural gas instead of more greenhouse gas intensive fuels such as coal.  The project was registered with the UNFCCC in July 2009, and will generate 0.2 million CERs over its life.

Sindicatum has an advisory role on this project. Sindicatum is using its climate change expertise to act as a consultant (in particular to develop the CDM documentation and to manage the registration and on-going CER verification processes).
