Anthony Moody – Chairman of Asia

Anthony is a Main Board member resident in Asia supporting the implementation of the Corporate agenda by the Asia-based business units. In coordination with the business units he also has a lead role in establishing and managing Government relationships in the Region. He has over thirty five years experience in the capital markets, investment banking, and investment management industry, all with operating, financial, or fiduciary responsibility. Twenty years of this experience has been in Asia, the majority managing the capital markets and wealth management businesses of Continental Bank and its acquirer Bank of America. Prior to founding his own private equity investment company in 2003, Anthony was CEO for Asia of Zurich Scudder Investments, the asset management arm of Zurich Financial Services, a member of the firm’s Global Management Committee, and Chairman of Scudder Investments Japan. Anthony is a Director of a number of Asian investment funds and on a ‘pro bono’ basis actively supports the promotion of higher standards of corporate governance and sustainable responsible investment, and microfinance. He initially joined Sindicatum as an Adviser to the Board in 2006.

Assaad Razzouk – CEO, Sindicatum Group

Assaad co-founded Sindicatum Group in 2002. As Sindicatum Group Chief Executive, Assaad is responsible for Sindicatum’s overall strategy, stakeholder relationships and the project investments managed by Sindicatum’s business units in China, the United States, South East Asia and India. From 1993 to 2002, Assaad was an investment banker at Nomura International plc in London, where he was successively Head of the Middle East Group (1993-1997), Head of Corporate Finance – Emerging Markets (1997-1999), Head of Corporate Finance – Financial Institutions, Communications and Technology (1999-2001) and Deputy Head, Global Corporate Finance (2001-2002). At Nomura International, Assaad advised on several billion dollars of equity and debt capital raisings and invested several hundred million dollars of Nomura’s capital in private equity and principal finance investments in the emerging markets, each investment resulting in a profitable exit for Nomura. From 1988 to 1993, Assaad was at Price Waterhouse in New York City where his last position was as Manager, International Capital Markets. At Price Waterhouse, Assaad advised the Government of Indonesia on the privatization of state-owned enterprises from 1991 to 1993, with an emphasis on the transportation sector, and specialized in advising Fortune 500 corporations in cross-border structured lease financings. Assaad is a graduate of Syracuse University (Summa Cum Laude) and holds an MBA from Columbia Business School.

Dan Wells – Managing Director, Strategic Corporate Finance

Dan specializes in sustainable and carbon asset investment strategies, with over 10 years experience in the sector. Dan joined Sindicatum in July 2007 and initially focused on the successful fundraising for the ISCCP and equity capital placements for Sindicatum. From July 2009 Dan assumed leadership of the Portfolio Monitoring Group (“PMG”) of Sindicatum, and from March 2010 Dan took the position of Managing Director, Portfolio Companies.  In August 2011 Dan was appointed to lead the Strategic Corporate Finance team at Sindicatum.  Between 2000 and 2007, he worked for Ernst & Young, latterly as a Senior Executive in the Corporate Finance Department, specifically in Environmental Finance, advising clean energy businesses and government agencies on alternative energy issues. He has also advised a range of conventional international energy industry businesses on valuation and modeling issues. He has written several published papers on carbon finance and sustainable investment themes. Dan is a Chartered Accountant. He is currently completing an MSc in Sustainable Leadership from the Centre for Sustainable and Environmental Management and holds a BA in Modern History from the University of Bristol.

David Creedy – Managing Director, CMM & VAM

David joined Sindicatum in December 2006 as head of the Coal Mine Methane (CMM) Group where he manages a team of 11 CMM engineers and staff responsible for developing, implementing and operating CMM and ventilation air methane (VAM) projects. He has global responsibility for technical matters relating to coal mine projects and for delivery of coal mine utilization and abatement projects in China. David is a Chartered Engineer with 30 years experience in coal mine methane, coalbed methane, institutional and energy projects. He spent his formative years at British Coal’s Mining Research and Development Establishment where he became Head of the Methane Group with responsibility for a wide range of applied research. He has worked mainly in China since 2003, initially with Wardell Armstrong LLP as a technical director, and then as an independent consultant before joining Sindicatum . David assisted the World Bank in China with coal sector institutional and regulatory reform projects and the formulation of strategy for CBM/CMM development and utilization and was Chief Technical Adviser to the UNDP-MOST clean energy action project involving 18 pilot cities. He was closely involved with the evolution of the CDM methodology for CMM extraction and utilisation/destruction and is the CMM sector specialist for DNV providing technical advice on CDM and JI project validation.

David Raubenheimer – Managing Director, Direct Projects

David is responsible for diligence, construction and operation for a portfolio of Sindicatum’s direct investments in sustainable resources projects in China, South East Asia and India.  David joined Sindicatum as Senior Vice President, Power Generation in August 2006. David has over 20 years experience developing, constructing and operating a wide range of renewable and conventional power generation projects.  Before joining Sindicatum David spent 15 years as Development Director then Operations Director with Energy Power Resources Limited (formerly Fibrowatt Limited) developing then operating its fleet of 5 biomass and 4 wind power projects. David started his career working for Centrax Gas Turbines Limited. David is a Chartered Mechanical Engineering and is former Chairman of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Renewable Power Committee.

Gareth Phillips – Chief Climate Change Officer

Gareth joined Sindicatum as Chief Climate Change Officer in January 2006 where he manages a team of 6 Senior Climate Change Officers (SCCO) and approx 20 Climate Change Project Officers based in Sindicatum’s head and regional offices. In 2008, Gareth introduced a comprehensive Quality Management System (QMS) covering the activities of the Climate Change Team from initial pre-screening of project opportunities through registration to issuance of emission reductions. Within the QMS, Gareth and the SCCOs either work on specific projects or act as technical reviewers of all project documentation, ensuring that PDDs and other documents are of a high quality. Gareth is also responsible for training, competency assessments and approval to perform critical activities such as the preparation of PDDs. Prior to joining Sindicatum, Gareth was the Global Manager of the SGS Climate Change Programme, where he was responsible for obtaining and maintaining SGS’ accreditation as a Designated Operational Entity to the CDM Executive Board. Gareth is one the world’s leading experts on climate change and the Kyoto Protocol, having worked on the validation and verification of numerous CDM and JI projects in most sectors, and also in accreditation and verification for the UK and EU Emission Trading Schemes, the California Climate Action Registry, the Chicago Climate Exchange and voluntary carbon offset projects particularly in the forestry sector where the pioneered the concept of buffering.

Jay Mariyappan – Managing Director of Climate Change Delivery

Jay Mariyappan joined Sindicatum in 2008 and is a Managing Director of Climate Change Delivery where he oversees Sindicatum’s projects and Climate Change team in China, India and SE Asia. Jay has over 10 years of financial, technical and managerial experience in carbon finance and clean energy investments. Previously he was a Vice President with CantorCO2e Ltd part of the Brokerage house Cantor Fitzgerald, where he was responsible for developing, originating and brokering investments, carbon credits and clean technology between project developers and sellers primarily in India (but also Latin America and Africa), and carbon buyers and project financiers in Europe, Japan, and USA. During his time he was instrumental in setting up three origination offices in India (New Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad), developing a large CDM/investment portfolio and structuring and managing a number of completed transactions including project finance investments, CER pre-payments, forward & spot sales. Prior to that he was an energy/climate change consultant at IT Power Ltd advising energy companies, banks and new carbon funds, and was seconded to UK Government’s Climate Change Projects Office for 18 months advising on the carbon markets, policy and projects. He has a PhD in Decentralized Energy Systems from Imperial College, London, a Masters in Environmental Management from the University of Nottingham, and a Masters in Financial Economics from SOAS, London.

Jeff Liebert – Managing Director, US CMM and VAM

Jeff Liebert was a co-founder of Verdeo Group prior to its merger with Sindicatum and leads the company’s US mining practice. He works closely with mine operators to develop next generation methane utilization and emission reduction projects in the United States. He has written articles for leading industry trade magazines, including World Coal, Coal Age, American Coal Council and has been a featured conference speaker for the National Mining Association, American Coal Council, EPA’s Coalbed Methane Outreach Program, and Longwall USA.

Prior to Verdeo, Jeff was a Vice President for Climate Change Capital’s US$1 billion carbon fund, where he was responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of industrial energy efficiency and methane gas utilization projects throughout Eurasia. Jeff brings a wealth of experience investing in energy and clean technology companies as a venture capital investor, project financier, and project developer. Prior to joining CCC, Jeff led the development of the International Finance Corporation’s portfolio of clean technology investments originating and structuring over $80 million in assets, including WaterHealth International, MBA Polymers, and Turbotech. Jeff also led and structured a highly innovative $150 million risk sharing facility with the Industrial Bank of China and natural gas utility Xinao Gas to provide project financing to industrial energy efficiency projects, which was recognized by the Financial Times as one of the top sustainability deals of 2006. Before the IFC, Jeff consulted to multinational corporations on market entry strategies for China and established and managed joint venture textile factories throughout Central Asia and China.

John Savage – Managing Director, US Delivery

John Savage was a co-founder of Verdeo Group prior to its merger with Sindicatum and currently leads Verdeo’s project execution activities. He is responsible for overseeing Verdeo’s portfolio of operating projects, as well as ensuring new projects are constructed and commissioned on-time and on-budget. John has over 12 years experience in the renewable energy and carbon finance markets and has been one of the pioneers of carbon offset projects in the oil & gas industry in North America, including developing the first approved methodology for reducing fugitive methane emissions.

Prior to Verdeo, John worked for Climate Change Capital and its $1 billion carbon fund on a strategy for expanding its business into the US; he also led the execution for CCC of a number of CDM and voluntary market transactions. Previously, as an executive with Green Mountain Energy, John led marketing and business development for the nation’s leading retail supplier of renewable energy. During his tenure at Green Mountain, John established Green Mountain Energy® as the leading brand of clean electricity in its target markets, helped develop wind and solar projects in several states, and led the expansion and growth of three of the nation’s Top 5 utility green power programs. John began his career as an investment banker in the Energy Group at Merrill Lynch Capital Markets.

John has a BA in History, cum laude, from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Kevin Xu – Vice-Chairman, China

Kevin joined Sindicatum in 2008 as CEO , Sindicatum China. Kevin is responsible for Sindicatum’s business in Greater China, including a China WFOE, the Beijing Representative Office and the Sindicatum Hong Kong office; and his role includes managing Sindicatum’s investment and project portfolios in Greater China from project identification and origination, leading to financial closure on the one hand and project execution, operation and delivery on the other hand. Kevin also interacts with other group units on Sindicatum Group initiatives and activities in the region. The Sindicatum China leadership team consists of senior managers in the areas of climate exchange, Finance, Human Resources/Admin, HSE, Public Relations, Legal, Commercial and Strategy, Technical and Project Management. Kevin is a graduate of Dalian College of Light Industry (mechanical engineering) and holds an MBA from the State University of New York. Kevin is a seasoned Chinese corporate executive who started his 25 year career at the Ministry of Light Industry in China, before serving in various executive roles at (amongst others) General Electric for 5 years and at BP for 10 years (where he was lastly Chairman & General Manager, BP Zhuhai LPG and Vice President, BP LPG China). He joined Sindicatum from his previous role as Board Member and General Manager of Sinoswiss Inspection Co. Ltd.

Kirk Evans – Vice-Chairman, Indonesia

Kirk brings 20 years of experience in Indonesia where he has been involved in high profile projects in the information technology, finance, and agriculture industries. He was the founder of PT Solusindo, an information technology company that provides software and support services to the Indonesian banking industry and is currently providing outsourcing services to four of the largest foreign Banks in Indonesia. He is also a Director of PT Haydrian Indonesia, a company that provides anti-money laundering solutions to banks, brokerages and the insurance industry. He holds an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, and has consulted to the World Bank, the European Union, and the German technical aid organization, GTZ on international cooperation for sustainable development.

Michael Boardman – CFO, Sindicatum Group

Michael Boardman joined Sindicatum in January 2011 as Group Chief Financial Officer. Michael brings 22 years’ experience of finance and capital markets and a strong knowledge of the international investment community. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in the UK, Michael pursued an investment banking career, where over 18 years he has been directly responsible for raising over US$30 billion, in both the public and the private markets, executing a wide variety of transactions including equity raisings, debt and other financing solutions to corporate and government entities. A key feature of Michael’s career has been an emphasis on fast growing markets and growth sectors – high tech, biotech, and, in recent years, in the alternative energy.

Nicholas Kelly – Legal Director, Sindicatum Group

Nick has over 10 years experience in international M&A, project finance and commodity transactions in the energy sector, working on large scale IPPs, oil and gas acquisitions and power and gas trading matters. Nick is a UK qualified lawyer, and prior to joining Sindicatum , worked as senior counsel for LeBoeuf Lamb Greene & MacRae LLP and Denton Wilde Sapte in London. He is a graduate of Oxford University.

Robert (Bob) Driscoll – President, Sindicatum Group

Bob has over 36 years experience in successful development and management of international and domestic businesses. Specifically he has more than 15 years specializing in large-scale infrastructure development, financing, construction, ownership, operation, acquisition and divestment. Prior to joining Sindicatum Bob worked at Mirant Corporation as a Senior Vice President and Head of Asset Management where he managed Mirant’s US operations, responsible for government relations, business development, and coordination of the company’s commercial and operations groups.

Bob was also Chief Executive Officer of Mirant Mid-Atlantic LLC, a business unit representing nearly 80% of Mirant’s annual revenues. Previously Bob was a Principal at Private Power Development, an advisory firm providing consulting services to various companies, including a consortium of Japanese and British firms that purchased a multi-billion dollar Asia-Pacific business. Prior to this Bob worked at Edison Mission Energy (“EME”), serving as Chief Operating Officer of EME’s Asia Pacific business, where he grew the business from two assets in the region to one of the largest overseas US investments in the independent power business, with over USD 5 billion of assets and operations in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Singapore.

From 1984 to 1995 he worked at the US-ASEAN Business Council in Washington DC, and prior to that he was a Vice President at the Council of the Americas, from November 1973 to July 1984, in New York City. He holds a B.A. from Carroll College, Montana and an M.A. from the University of Texas.

Rudy Sembiring – Managing Director, AG Solutions

Rudy joined Sindicatum in August 2008, initially as Senior Vice President.  He presently co-manages the Agricultural Solutions Group where he manages a team of professionals including engineers, project managers, climate change specialists.  His principal area of interest is agricultural waste conversion to energy and added value products. Rudy’s role includes managing Sindicatum’s investment and project portfolio in the agricultural sector from project identification and origination, leading to financial closure. He is also responsible for implementing and operating agricultural projects. Rudy has over 17 years of combined project and business development experience with an emphasis on the agricultural sector. Rudy holds a Master in Management (with distinction) from the Asian Institute of Management in Manila and a degree in Civil Engineering from ITB in Bandung, Indonesia.

Sheela Parakkal – HR Director, Sindicatum Group

Sheela Parakkal joined Sindicatum in April 2011 as Group Human Resources Director. Sheela’s primary responsibilities at Sindicatum are to guide and manage the overall provision of HR services, policies and programs for the Group. Prior to joining Sindicatum, Sheela spent the last 8 years as the lead HR business partner for the Assurance practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers (“PwC”) Singapore. Working with business leaders there, Sheela played an important role in both formulation and bringing to life people strategies across a variety of areas including recruitment, mobility, leadership development and talent management. A trained facilitator and coach, Sheela was a frequent trainer at regional development programs for key talent. Prior to assuming the lead HR business partner role at PwC Singapore, Sheela spent 9 years as an auditor, with a primary focus on the financial services sector. A member of the Australian Society for Certified Practising Accountants, Sheela holds an MBA (Banking & Finance) from the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Umesh Sahdev – Vice-Chairman, India

Umesh joined Sindicatum in 2007 as CEO, Sindicatum India, to establish Sindicatum’s operations in India. He subsequently finalized our Joint Venture with ENAM, India’s leading Merchant Bankers. Umesh has built a business delivery team of 8 people fully equipped to identify, appraise and negotiate greenhouse gas abatement projects in the Indian Subcontinent, including a business network for the identification of viable investment project proposals in Sindicatum India’s main verticals of Bio Mass to Power / Cogeneration, Waste to Bio Diesel and MSW Recycling. Umesh has 36 years of diverse experience in projects & business development in a wide range of industries in India. Previously, he was CEO of the Projects Division of India’s major merchant banking company Bajaj Capital and Head of Merchant Banking Operations of Mefcom Capital Markets Ltd. He has represented and developed businesses in India for Sandivk Process Systems, Italy and Siam Superior Group, Thailand. He was a founding member of the team of AIM-listed PMCI plc and was its Director of Operations in India before joining Sindicatum.

Sindicatum Middle East North Africa

Danny da Cruz – CEO, Sindicatum MENA

Danny has been with Sindicatum since its inception. In January 2009, he established Sindicatum MENA, a Bahrain based clean energy and climate change project development company focused on the Middle East and North Africa. Sindicatum MENA is a joint venture between Sindicatum and Gulf One Investment Bank, a major GCC infrastructure bank with extensive relationships in the region. Danny manages a team of engineers, climate change experts and project finance professionals to originate projects in the power, oil & gas, water and industrial sectors in one of the most resource intensive regions of the world. Sindicatum MENA also advises regional governments on climate change and clean energy policy. Prior to starting Sindicatum MENA, Danny worked in a number of business development roles within Sindicatum, including project origination and implementation in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Indonesia. Prior to Sindicatum, he was a co-founder and director of OdC+Co, a strategy consulting firm based in London that advised blue chip companies such as Shell, Ford Motor Company, Toyota and the London Stock Exchange on strategy development and change management. Before that he was a senior consultant at Braxton Associates, Deloitte & Touche’s strategy consulting arm. Danny began his career as an officer in the United States Navy, serving in positions afloat and ashore. He has an Aerospace Engineering degree from the US Naval Academy at Annapolis, a masters in International Relations from the University of Southern California, and an MBA from the London Business School.
